EAGLE Net classes

Especially on your power line you might want thicker traces by default. In the Edit menu goto Net classes: image

Add an extra class PWR and set the default width.

In the properties of the power net set the Net Class to PWR.

On the PCB the trace will get the new default width when you route it.

EAGLE Making a ground plane

One of the basic design rules is to make the ground plane as large as possible. In Eagle you can to this very easily with the polygon function:

Step 1 Change the defaults:

Step 2 draw a polygon around the area you want to place the ground planes:

Step 3 rename the polygon to the net name off your ground net (in this case VSS) :

Step 4 press the ratsnest button:

EAGLE Autoroute one layer

By default Eagle autroutes the PCB on two layers. If you don’t have the equipment to etch or mill to layers try this.

On the autoroute General tab set the top to N/A and the bottom layer to *

EAGLE ripup all

When routing the board you sometimes want to start from scratch. One way of doing it is to enter RIPUP; (semi colon) in the command bar:

Welcome to Eagle 101

Hi,

I started this new 101 blog will working with the PCB design program Eagle from CadSoft.

Although I’m not an electrical engineer, I’m a fully licensed ham operator (PH9Z), with an intressed in electronics.

This blog is mainly intended for ‘newbie’ Eagle users like myself
